Another week, another episode and boy was this one a good one. As you can see from my super low quality screen shots our three heroes are first introduced to the almighty power of the Japan Meteorological Department a.k.a. “JP’s” as semi-prisoners. Our two sidekicks Daichi and Nitta are quickly shooed away to another room where Daichi tries and fails to lighten the mood, comedic relief: not happening. Meanwhile the actually involved and important people have a long conversation in order to create the setting and the scenario of the world.
We are quickly told that the world is falling apart or will fall apart because of the Septentriones, a group of horribly named demons that come from another world. It seems that Dubhe albeit having killed quite a bit of people, is the weakest of the seven and the stronger ones are sure to come in descending rank of strength (trope!). Still on the more realistic side of things, we have Nitta having a mental breakdown and freaking out as she couldn’t reach her mother. Which in all honesty is the more reasonable reaction to be having at this point. Of course by the end of the episode it all gets cleaned up so there’s not much to actually focus on about her. Aside from the fact that she is a ginormous walking fan service.
Speaking of fan service we have the newly added walking fan service and Commander at JP’s Makoto Sako. Who wears a very tight skirt and also kicks all kinds of ass. Anyways the next day after Hibiki has his time to build a social li- I mean… improve the fate points between Nitta and him, the trio quickly gets driven by Makoto towards Nitta’s mother. They promptly discover that well the entire neighborhood is up in smoke. Nitta’s breakdown starts here, as she becomes overwhelmed.
After some quick thinking and speaking from Hibiki they manage to persuade Nitta to continue travelling with them and not to try and reach her home by herself. The group thinks that the best place to be at the moment would be the nearest evacuation shelter. I assume in some hope to finds Nitta’s parents. The group quickly goes and well… Nitta’s breakdown is only exacerbated as there is no trace of her parents at the shelter.
Hibiki feeling the incredibly dull it’s okay conversation coming, quickly vacates the area in order to acquire drinks. On his way back he is mugged of one his drinks by a little adorable girl whose brother happily smiles at the crime and praises her. Hibiki though stares upwards to a rather large stained glass window (this is the point when I realized the shelter was a church). Frozen by the symbolism Hibiki is quite shocked (I wasn’t) when an Itsumade (that’s a level eight avian demon) suddenly breaks through the glass and starts to attack Hibiki’s mugger’s brother. Instead of being grateful to his defender Hibiki quickly summons Byakko to kill Itsumade.
This takes all of one second, as it is a level eight, of course quantity always beats quality. As suddenly dozens of Itsumades start to pour in and attack Hibiki. This is when Makoto decides to run in summoning her own demon, a level twenty-four divine demon (kind of an oxymoron), that easily kills the level eight Itsumades. The situation is quickly handled and Hibiki the great and mighty is given the fear and dignity that a summoner of devils deserves. Except then the little mugger’s brother goes and breaks all of the hard-earned fear that Hibiki gained by calling him Onii-chan. I mean really that is not the proper term for a summoner of devils.
Anyways the group is once again seen at JP’s but this time everyone is in the know and is ready to kick some Septentrion’s butt, and that’s how Team Tokyo was formed. Next week, Team Osaka! A dancer, a annoying kid and a brainwashed hacker all await us next week!
Overall this episode was filled with anime only things and while I could vaguely recall some of the situations and scenarios that occurred, it really did take a large divergence from the game. Now I’m speaking from my crappier memory here, but if I recall what happened in the game was that Hibiki and co. weren’t treated as prisoners in the game but as guests. In fact they actually fled JP’s and headed towards Nitta’s home by themselves on foot. Still, it was a good episode and I enjoyed it, so that’s all that really matters.
