It’s been a long week and nothing says “Yay! It’s the day before Friday!” than me sitting alone at my computer watching the newest episode of Devil Survivor 2: The Animation and wishing that it was Devil Survivor 1: The Animation as I liked that game’s story a lot more, although it was far more simplistic. Anyways today’s episode was rather shocking for reason I’ll go on to talk about so if you haven’t seen the episode I warn you about spoilers now.
Hibiki and Co. are chilling on the super secret JP’s train to Osaka chatting and overall having a much better time than we saw them have while they were looking for Nitta’s presumed dead parents. Daichi buys himself a brand new demon using Macca, the money that you gain from killing demons, though I don’t know why he got any as he as been as useful to the battles as a jack hammer underwater in a tropical storm. Anyways Daichi’s additions to his Poltergeist (a level one Ghost demon) are Obariyon (a level three Jaki demon) and Agathion (a level six Ghost demon) which are much to his surprise are absolutely useless when fighting the Gozuki (a level eighteen Jaki demon) and Mezuki (a level twenty five Jaki demon).
Anyways before all the fighting happens we are quickly introduced to the main members of the Osaka team Hinako Kujou (another walking piece of fanservice who in the game was simply a civilian who after meeting Hibiki joining JP’s) and Keita Wakui (a boy his middle school boxing club who well… you’ll see). Fumi Kanno (a very absent minded airhead chief of technology) is the third member of team Osaka but is currently missing! Our team quickly sets out to her last known sighting and checks the area for clues about where she could be. Our heroes the masterful detectives they are find nothing and instead head back to the Osaka base which is in the process of being hacked into. I wonder by who!?
After a bunch of random talking that really was just to show what a dick the vice chairman of JP’s is, I mean really he just looks like a douche, Hinako get’s a message from Tico (the male one) showing a video of Keita dead on the ground. The team quickly reacts to this and with some superb deductions from Hibiki the team quickly rushes off towards Festival Gate where they know the hacker and Keita wait. When they get there however, Keita is already under attack from the Mezukis and the Gozukis. Keita’s demon, Berserker (a level thirty eight Jaki demon) fails to protect him as he’s thrown backwards and towards a very sharp spike in the ground.
However, before Keita can die (he was starting to grate on my nerves by this point and I never did use him in the game so his death really didn’t matter much to me) Hinako rushes in and saves him with her Lilim (a level eighteen Femme demon). Keita ever grateful tha- wait no he just continues to act like a brat. Anyways the team retreats for a bit in order or Yamato to give them their orders and then for them to ready themselves to attack. After some comedic relief from Daichi lamenting the weakness of his demons we are given some major mood whiplash when we learn that the eight summoners that JP’s sent to back Hibiki and co up all died.
Yeah, the death count in this show starting to get up there eh? The team quickly tries there best to regroup as Daichi and Nitta rush forward seeking the hacker whilst Hibiki, Hinako and Keita do the heavy lifting and actually attack the mass of demons. Daichi once again proves to be useless when he and Nitta finally find the hacker and is unable to do anything as his own demon is the level one Poltergeist (a Ghost demon if you couldn’t guess). Nitta on the other hand summons her Ogre (a level eight Jaki demon) and gets basically slapped around and then choked by Botis ( a level thirty seven Fallen demon) that has physical resist and lighting resist. Which in compassion to Hibiki’s level fifty three Byakko/Baihu (a Avatar demon) is well… In the games Botis would basically be a one hit KO if hit. In the anime though he proves to be super over powered because of his resistance and it takes the combined effort of both Keita and Hibiki to defeat him. Social li- er fate system point get!
Meanwhile the hacker is revealed to be a mind controlled Fumi (JP’s chief of technology) which was really to no one’s surprise. Right? I mean something like that should have been seen miles away by now. Anyways Daichi steals the last hit bonus by smacking the servers of Fumi’s computer and thus stopping her hacking of JP’s. The team all starts to celebrate when Bortis shows back up and well…
Kill’s Keita. Wow. That was actually pretty unexpected. I mean wow, they actually went with what happens when you fail a mission. Keita dying is possible in the game, but I didn’t expect the show to go through with it. This really shows the difference between Devil Survivor and Persona in that Devil Survivor isn’t going through with the 100% perfect good ending route. Keita’s death shows that the show is going to go places that I really didn’t expect it to, and that makes me really excited.
Anyways Keita dies, and Fumi quickly activates her super secret password that causes all of the JP’s security system’s to implode. Well this is looking great. The anime has really branched off now and well I’m not sure exactly what’s going to happen next. All I really can say is that I’m excited for what ever is about to occur. My guess though? Anguished One (that creepy guy with the red and black stripped (that totally reminded my of another character that has yet to make an appearance but made one super early on in the game, where’ s Joe?) suit) talks with Hibiki for the first time and we get to see the next Septentrione fight. Which is Merak by the way.
Anyways, for now we wait. Until next week!
