Another fun episode of Hataraku Maou-sama that not only brightens my day but also makes me laugh, albeit this episode was a bit more plot heavy and had a overall grimier tone than usual, it still doesn’t take away from the fun.
We start off right where the last episode left off with a super buff and strong Maou easily saving the lives of several hundred people. Emila is confused for a very valid reason, as the bane of existence the center point of all the hate in all of Ente Isle is casually saving the lives of so many. After some quick back story where we see Emila go through a very happy childhood which then in line with every single RPG ever leads to a much darker adventure. She taken from her home at a very young age and put into the custody of the church, her father the sole light in her world is snuffed out and the entire village she is from is turned into ashes in front of her. Emila quite right enraged takes up the holy sword (she is half angel, her dad obviously being quite the ladies man to be able to pick up a angel) amd charges forward to save her world and avenge her father!
Fast forward a while and you get to the current time where Chiho now awake is quickly recognized by one of the police officers to be the sergeant’s daughter. The sergeant who turns out to be the same man that Maou-sama first used his magic on, which is why Chiho can apparently hear the voices of other people in a different universe. Anyways she runs off to meet her dad alone, because you know, you can’t really tell your dad that you nearly died because you were out on a date with the guy that he arrested a couple months ago.
Emila and Maou talk some more before the uncomfortably interested girl that works at Emila’s workplace comes over and invites Emila to stay over at her place. Well, the fanfiction I- that could be written. Ashiya comes back to grovel to Maou and demand a punishment for not protecting him (he seems like an M eh?) and Maou of course (as a good S) denies Ashiya a punishment. The two of them return home, while Emila has to refuse several advances from strangely interested workplace girl (I mean really, can’t you catch the hint by now?). We get some more character building and then blam! We’re at tomorrow morning.
Emila is once more at Maou’s house and the two of them get talking some more. Emila ends up in tears of sadness/frustration/anger/(iunno) and then Maou just about to apologize is interrupted when Chiho walks in and totally misinterprets the situation. Chiho runs out crying and before Maou can run to correct the misunderstanding the really weird land lady comes back in. She says some stuff and then blam!
We cut to Chiho who bumps right into strange creepy man number two. Strange creepy man is revealed to be Demon General Lucifer, and Maou and Co. arrive just in time to pose for the end scene.
So, this week’s episode didn’t contain as many jokes and well it was different. Sill good, and the jokes they did have were still funny but well there was a lot more character information given and a clear back story for Emila. Maou also was dropping some hints about his true nature and that he might not be all that seems to be. The side characters got some more light on them too, with Minty being super creepy. By the looks of it, Emila’s party members the lumberjack who’s also a genius tactician and the priestess will be joining us next week, so let’s expect some more jokes! Well after we deal with Lucifer.
